Minefield
The sequel to our favourite tower defense game. App Store link (1,59 €)
Geo Defense is our favourite tower defense game. If you’re not familiar, read our review.
The main difference in “Swarm” is that the enemies no longer wander on a path. Instead they enter the field from green entrances and take the shortest way to the red exits.
This way the strategy to beat a level fundamentally changes, because you now have to build a maze by placing the towers on the field instead of finding the most effective spots for your towers. This principle might be familiar from games like “Fieldrunners” but Geo Defense is much more interesting, because of the level design. There are lots of levels and they’re all very different. For example the 8th medium level “A Bit of a Juggle” requires a whole new thinking about the strategy that kept me busy for 2 days without getting frustrated.
There are more novelties in the game: a new tower, levels that never end (so they’re about how long you can survive) and a new highscore system (Open Feint – I am not really sure weather I like it or not). So, this game is for all the fans of the original Geo Defense game. It’s familiar but also very new. And it’s challenging. Like the original it is the perfect game for the platform: minimalistic in design and functionality but maximal in depths and long time motivation.
