node with shield

Nano is not a typical game, it’s more a creative way to play and meditate. The first time I run the app, I was a little bit helpless cause there’s no real introduction, but after a few minutes I dived into the flow of particles and it was kind of fascinating to explore the different particles. app store link

Each level consists of a electromagnetic field and  two or three nodes, which you have to activate. There are six different particles-types, three benign (good) and three malign (bad) which all interact differently due to their diverse masses.

Basically, you have to guide the benign particles into the nodes by changing the electromagnetic field. When there are enough good particles in a node it will get activated. On the other hand you have to keep the malign particles away from the nodes. By activating all nodes you get to the next stage. In the first levels it’s easy to let the right ones flow into the nodes, but at advanced levels it gets real tricky to guide the benign particles. Due to this you can explore different strategies, using benign particles to create a shielded node that will destroy malign ones or you cluster particles before guiding them to a node.

Although it is a complex system, the outstanding part of nano is that you can just watch the particles flow, finding their way to the nodes and listening to the ambient sounds. No time pressure at all.

The creator of nano is artist Adrian Johnson. You can visit his site to learn more about nano and the idea behind it.
